A warm welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Parish Maryborough. We are a welcoming community guided by the Holy Spirit and drawn together as one family to celebrate God our Father through the Sacraments in Worship to Jesus Christ our Saviour. As a faith-filled parish family, blessed with a wonderful primary and secondary school, we work to build up a community that serves one another as Jesus showed and taught us to proclaim God's love in all we say and do. “You must love one another, just as I have loved you.” (John 13:34). At St Mary’s parish, everyone is welcome to the home of Mary the Mother of Christ and our mother also as we seek to live out the gospel of Christ in a manner that impacts the life of all in our community and beyond.
We are eagerly waiting to welcome you with open arms whether you are new to Maryborough and looking for a parish to call home, or you are just a visitor in search of a nearby church to join for worship, or whether you are returning home to your Catholic faith, or you are just wanting to discern and learn a bit more about the Catholic Church. We trust this, our parish website, along with our Facebook page, may contain some useful resources that may help to satisfy your need.
St. Mary’s Catholic Parish is steeped in history. The first Mass was celebrated at the ‘old town’ in 1852 and by 1861 Maryborough had its first resident priest, Father Paul Tissot, who was a French national. The building of St. Mary’s Church at Maryborough commenced in 1869 and was officially opened in 1872. In 1878 the Sacred Heart Church at Tiaro was opened followed by Our Lady of the Way Church at Aramara in 1950. Since then, St Mary’s has been blessed with fourteen parish priests. Finally, I am delighted to be counted among these great priests who served God and this iconic Maryborough community with great love and faith. As the recent and the fourteenth Parish Priest of St Mary’s, I ask that you pray for me as together we continue to improve upon the great works of the men and women of faith whose legacies and hard work over the years have both inspired and challenged us to give nothing but our best for the future growth of St Mary’s and the entire Maryborough faith community.
May Mary the Mother Christ and our Mother also, intercede for us as we work to build the kingdom of God both here and hereafter. Amen
